Using a photo (or a set of photos) I can turn your favorite memory into your new favorite oil painting. If you don’t have the perfect photo, we can make the necessary changes “in paint.” My rates are based on sizes; 6×6, 8×8, 11×14, and 16×20. SUBJECTS: I prefer to paint a “moment” instead of a traditional portrait. While I don’t shy away from full-face portraits, it is important that some movement is implied in the photo for it to work as a reference for a painting. In other words, a staged photo of three people smiling straight into the camera doesn’t make as powerful a painting as one based on three people interacting, laughing, or generally sharing a moment together. Please keep this in mind when considering a photo for a painting. Questions? Send me what you’ve got and I’m happy to give you feedback on whether or not I think it will work.
TURNAROUND TIME: Depending upon the time of year, my turnaround time can change, however it usually takes me about 2 weeks to complete a commission sized 16×20 or smaller. Oil paint can take 2 weeks to dry, so expect a month – at least – before you have the painting “in hand.” If you are interested in commissioning a custom piece for the holidays, please reach out to me in September or October at the latest. I “book up” pretty quickly during that time of year.
SHIPPING: I charge a flat fee of $10 for shipping paintings stateside. Otherwise, international shipping rates will apply. I ship 2-day Priority USPS because I enjoy going to the post office. “My post office ladies” are wonderful people.
MATERIALS: I prefer to paint on gessobord panels as opposed to canvas boards. Gessobords are hard, masonite (wood) boards. Sizes 11×14 and smaller are 1/8″ depth, but my 16″x20″s have a cradle — a 2/3″ depth — to prevent them from warping over time. Any painting on a “cradled” boards will be wired for hanging, and the painted portrait/scene will wrap around the sides so it has a more modern, finished look. Please let me know if you would prefer a cradled board. All paintings are sealed with a final gloss varnish.
